If someone were to ask me who my favorite band was that is still making music today, hands down it would be Mastodon. I waited for The Hunter like Christians wait for the rapture. When this album dropped in September, I was blown away, to say the least. I was fortunate enough to meet these guys at Cactus Records before their show at Fitzgeralds, and get my vinyl & dvd signed. Ill tell you, I felt like I was meeting ZEPPELIN! Right from the beginning it hits hard with the tracks Black Tongue, Curl of the Burl, and Blasteroids. The album then takes a turn with the song, that shares the name of the album, The Hunter, with what sounds like a homage to his (Brent Hinds-Guitar)brother who passed away during the recording of the album in a hunting accident, is a powerful tune.I always love when Brent busts out the acoustic.Following this song is a classic rock sounding tune with some serious bite named Dry Bone Valley, sung by drummer Brann Dailor. This is one of those albums you don’t need to skip. Before the release of the album, I heard it was supposed to “sound like zeppelin”, and it really does. Like a progressive, classic rock feel. I definitely give this album 5/5 stars. It flows so smoothly and it has everything i come to expect from a Mastodon album.
